My neighbor Doug is a faithful reader of this blog (thanks, Doug!), and he has decided to respond to my Latin riddle with a seemingly simple geography riddle of his own: “What region is east of the Balkans but west of Iberia?”

Given the obvious paradox, I haven’t a clue; he swears that it’s not a wording trick, and he also assures me that it has nothing to do with the International Date Line or measuring east and west the long way around the globe.  He won’t tell me the answer, so if any of my other faithful readers can figure it out, please tell me or submit it as a comment below.
