Tarot card for Judgement Day

Here’s an odd fact I just learned from my friend Jeff. The Tarot card depicting Judgment Day (in the Rider-Waite deck, which is the standard version of Tarot imagery, according to Wikipedia) shows Gabriel blowing his horn–no surprise there–but there’s a banner with St. George’s cross attached to Gabriel’s horn. According to Wikipedia, the deck was designed by a mystic, Arthur Edward Waite, who was born in Brooklyn but grew up in England, so that may explain his fondness for St. George. Obviously I don’t believe in Tarot cards or anything else having to do with the occult, but it’s interesting as a cultural depiction, and I’m always happy to see St. George given some publicity, especially in connection with something as important as Judgment Day.
